California wine country spans all through the state with Santa Barbara, Paso Robles, Monterey and Santa Cruz in the south, Sierra Foothills in the east and Napa/Sonoma, Healdsburg and Russian river and Mendocino counties to the north.

Napa Valley

The Napa Valley is the most famous and the most popular of California's wine producing regions, and produces everything from fine Cabernet Sauvignon to Chardonnay to Ports. The valley is literally carpeted with more than 400 wineries, and its growers and vintners combine cutting-edge science with traditional techniques, and its reputation for producing world-class wines is firmly established in an ever-growing global market. With the principal sub-regions being Napa, Yountville, Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena and Calistoga.

Sonoma valley

Sonoma is less crowded than its Napa Valley neighbor and has some wonderful wineries of its own to visit. There are more than 55,000 acres in Sonoma County planted to grapes, and approximately 200 wineries. Wine growing regions are: Alexander Valley, Bennett Valley, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, Green Valley, Knights Valley, Northern Sonoma, Rockpile, Russian River Valley, Sonoma-Carneros, Sonoma Coast, Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Valley. Grape acres have increased only two-and-a-half times in the last 100 year.

Livermore valley

Livermore valley wine country is located in the San Francisco Bay appellation, 30 miles east of San Francisco. Both the Livermore Valley and San Francisco Bay appellations are within the larger Central Coast appellations. Home to 38 wineries (and counting), ranging from handcrafted startups to historic leaders of the California wine industry. Approximately 5,000 acres of vineyard planted. The Livermore Valley has an east-west orientation, making it unique among northern California winegrowing regions. It is 15 miles long (east to west), 10 miles wide (north to south), and surrounded by coastal range mountains and foothills. The east-west orientation of the valley allows the coastal fog and marine breezes to come in from the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay and cool the valley’s warm air, resulting in warm days and cool nights ideal conditions for producing fully-ripened, balanced fruit. award-winning Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay for six decades. Attracts over 500,000 visitors each year.

Mendocino county's

Mendocino County is part of California's famous North Coast wine region. Directly north of Sonoma County, Mendocino County begins about 90 miles north of San Francisco. The Mendocino wine region is bounded by California's Coastal Mountain Range, the Pacific Ocean, and the great northern redwood forests. Mendocino's vineyards are divided among several small Mayacamas and Coastal Range mountain valleys, following the drainages of the Russian and Navarro Rivers. Vineyards rise from the river plains, onto the benchlands above. Total Vineyard Acreage is 15,500, with 340 vineyards and 50 wineries and principal varietals are Chardonnay,Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Rieslin, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon,Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, Syrah Viognier.

Healdsburg & Russian river

Healdsburg & Russian river lush valleys are home to some of the oldest names in California winemaking. Healdsburg is surrounded by several of Northern California’s finest regional wine appellations, including Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, and Russian River Valley. The Alexander Valley alone boasts over 13,000 acres of vineyards, 30 grape varieties, 28 wineries and over 200 independent farmers. The area wineries focus on premium wines made from locally grown grapes. Healdsburg is centrally located to over 100 world class wineries and tasting rooms, from palatial European-style villas to rustic Mom and Pop operations, all sharing a passion for well-crafted wines.

Santa Cruz Mountains Wine country

Santa Cruz County has a tradition of fine winemaking that dates back to the late 1800's. Today, the County is home to over 40 family-owned and operated wineries that specialize in small yield, handcrafted wines.

Monterey & the Wineries of Carmel

Larger than other California wine regions, Monterey County boasts over 40,000 acres planted in varietal winegrapes. Within the world-class designation of Monterey County, the region has nine American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) that have been identified as truly one-of-a-kind winegrowing districts: Monterey, Santa Lucia Highlands, Arroyo Seco, San Lucas, Hames Valley, Chalone, Carmel Valley, San Antonio Valley, and San Bernabe. These areas are referred to as "appellations" which is a term that identifies the winegrape's place of origin. A vineyard's location is made up of a synthesis of geography, climate, soil types, and viticultural practices. These elements combine to provide characteristics that make the grapes and the wine unique from that locale. Approximately 85 vintners and growers call Monterey County "home", while vintners around the state purchase grapes from Monterey County growers recognizing Monterey's world-class reputation.

Sierra Foothills

There are more than 100 wineries in the Sierra Foothills. In addition to the many award-winning Zinfandels, the wineries offer high quality Sauvignon Blanc, Barbera, Sangiovese, Syrah, Ports, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Primitivo. Wine tasting is usually complimentary.
